Nick Merges Minnesota Wild Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to O.H. Anderson Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Nick Merges, who has been named the Minnesota Wild’s 2024 Teacher of the Year award recipient! Merges recently had the honor of making the “Let’s Play Hockey” announcement at the Wild vs. the Colorado Avalanche game on April 4. Click here to watch the video from the game.

In March, Mr. Merges was one of 20 teachers in North America, to be named a nominee for the National Hockey League & National Hockey League Players' Association's Most Valuable Teacher award.

About Mr. Merges
Mr. Merges has been a teacher for eight years. He began his career as a fifth-grade teacher after graduating from college with an Elementary Education degree. He strives to show students how the curriculum they are learning in the classroom is present in their everyday lives. He uses the National Hockey League’s Future Goals program with his students, which teaches science and math skills using interactive gameplay and real-world scenarios. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Merges plays hockey in his local Adult Rookie League.
