Women Who Walk

Sarah Newman has been a part of the Mahtomedi community since 2009. Last summer, Sarah was a regular on the Lake Links Trail in Mahtomedi–along with her daughter Grace and her pup Douglas. She knew as her daughter moved away for her freshman year of college and colder weather crept in during the fall, a weekly walking group might be the perfect solution to continue her love of walking in good company.

Sarah approached Mahtomedi Community Education with this idea, and the group Women Who Walk was created. Women Who Walk meets Thursday mornings at the District Education Center and boasts a core group of community members who return every week to make the 1-3 mile walk together, adapting the pace and route to best fit everyone’s needs. Sarah shared that this experience has been a wonderful source of community and allowed her to connect with people she wouldn’t have otherwise encountered in her day-to-day.

Women Who Walk speaks to the power of community education bringing people together. We love seeing community members like Sarah help us create new opportunities! If you have a new idea, be sure to send it to communityed@isd832.net.
