Media Center

The mission of the Mahtomedi Schools Media Program is to cultivate digital literacy and digital citizenship skills, promote a lifelong love of reading, ensure that all students and staff have access to a wide range of diverse materials, and receive guidance to create and acquire new knowledge. The library media program provides a safe, welcoming environment that supports students and staff to be bold agents of their learning so they can explore, create, and grow to achieve success.

Digital Literacy:  We use the Common Sense Media curriculum to teach digital citizenship: www.commonsensemedia.org.  Some of the topics students will talk about are internet safety, their digital footprint, and information literacy.   The website also has great information for families about movies, books, websites, games, and more.

Book Fairs:  Our elementary schools have 2 book fairs a year, OHA hosts in the fall and Wildwood in the spring.  These book fairs fund new books for student checkout and classroom use. 100% of the profits from the book fairs go right back to the students. You are invited to both fairs even if you do not have a child at that site.  THANK YOU for your support!  For more information or to volunteer please check out the PTO Website.

READ-OH:  OH Anderson sponsors the school-wide reading initiative READ-OH. This fall we are striving to read and listen to 5,500 books, as a school. This helps every student to develop and practice their reading and listening skills.  Students log their books and turn it in by the due date for a prize and a book. Books can be read or listened to at home or school.  The Fall READ-OH will start in October.

Donations:  Cleaning house?  We accept any books!  Books that fit our students’ needs will be used for checkout, classroom libraries, reading groups, or prizes.  We also send books to Wildwood, the middle school, and the high school.  Any adult books will be spread out to the little libraries in the Mahtomedi area. Our goal is to get books into hands!

We also accept clear tape (any size or type), contact paper, glue, hand sanitizer, wipes, and any scrapbook paper or wall paper scraps (for bookmarks).

Scholastic Book Clubs:  Book clubs are a great way to add books to your home library.  You can also go to Scholastic Book Club and look up your child's teacher.  If they do not have an account, you can use the media code: TPY7B.

Book Recommendations:  Looking for high interest books for your student?  Check here.  This list has books that will keep kids reading.

Typing Club:  Every student at OHA has an account for Typing Club. Students will find the link in Classlink.

Welcome to the Media Program!
