I am very excited to be adding another approach to my therapy with your child! I recently attended a workshop presented by Char Broshart, MA, CCC-SLP. She really emphasized the importance of “laying the groundwork” for production of speech sounds. Speech is VERTICAL- the tongue rests on the roof of the mouth on the dental arch. The tongue is in the “neighborhood” when on the roof of the mouth. This should be the resting position for all of the speech sounds except for the th- sound, where the tongue is in the horizontal position (center of mouth). Many speech students do not have the muscle tone and endurance to maintain the VERTICAL position, so exercises need to be incorporated in the therapy sessions. Beginning next week I plan on doing this and will be sending home a folder/kit with your child with follow up activities for your child to do at home. Your help is really appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me!
