Social Studies
In third grade, students learn about maps as tools that help us to acquire information.  Students also study the concept of geographic factors and how they influence cities and settlement.  In addition, students will learn how people become part of our country, and reasons people immigrate to the United States.  Students will explore the idea that individuals and groups of citizens work together to improve their communities.  They will discover how people around the world are alike and different.  Learning about community service and various roles of community workers is also part of third grade social studies, as is the study of three ancient civilizations.
